Appointment of New AEMO Head Welcomed

The Australian energy industry today congratulated Audrey Zibelman on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Energy Market Operator.

The Australian Energy Council’s Chief Executive, Matthew Warren, said “Ms Zibelman’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the organisation and Australia’s energy market.

“Ms Zibelman will be leading the market operator during a period of significant change for AEMO and the energy industry.

“AEMO is in the midst of determining how to operate electricity markets reliably and safely whilst integrating world leading levels of intermittent generation.

“It is grappling with how to integrate electrons being despatched from both large generators and households, how to ensure efficient deployment and despatch of technologies like storage, how to plan for uncertain technological transformation and the rise of energy as a consumer good rather than a utility.

“Ms Zibelman’s experience in the transformation of wholesale energy markets in the US will be important in continuing AEMO’s work to manage the energy transformation.”
